Schilz-yeah, that’s really his name! The name of his
release on Middle Class Pig is ‘Black Elvis’ (MCP 008/CD or blue vinyl),
and it’s a collection of 12 tracks celebrating the golden age of Rock n’
Roll. What the hell is that supposed to mean, you might ask. Well, take
a listen to the Schilz song featured on this page, „Oh! Babe". Schilz
is a little bit of LSD-influenced country kitsch, a little bit of
‘60s Pop, a little bit of Rock n’ Roll. Sounds pretty ordinary, you might
say. Well, take a listen. (Alexander) Schilz records everything
in his basement on a 4-track. The result is anything but normal. Schilz
is definitely very difficult to categorize. That’s the way we like it here
at Middle Class Pig. Sometimes he sounds like Ween, sometimes like the
young Rolling Stones, at times like Captain Beefheart, and sometimes even
like a ‘Back From the Grave’ or ‘Pebbles’ comp. Schilz is serious
music, but there’s also humor in his work. Who else could play a Rockabilly
tune with a computer and a synthesizer (suck on that, Prodigy!)? Schilz
is diverse, strange, catchy and unpredictable.(Schilz, ‘Black Elvis’
MCP 008)
